17. Making a Statement Rug with Paint

To add a bold focal point without splurging on a designer rug, I transformed a plain, low-pile rug with stencils and fabric paint. After securing the rug and choosing a geometric pattern, I carefully applied the paint in layers, allowing each color to dry before moving on.
This DIY approach allowed complete control over the color palette and design, making the rug truly unique. Compared to expensive store-bought options, painting my own rug was budget-friendly and creatively satisfying. For inspiration and techniques, I referenced Better Homes & Gardens’ painted rug projects.
